Michael Jordan has demonstrated what it means to fly in countless iconic moments. Defying gravity, the Air Jordan was born. His broker David Falk said that Nike wanted to name the product lines by Michael Jordan, but Nike couldn’t ensure how influential that he could get as he was only 21 years old. So David Folk putted forward the idea of AIR JORDAN to highlight the air cushion technology of NIKE and the playing way of Michael Jordan. So it also became the inspiration of many AJ series shoes. The designers’ ideas comes to bomber, fighter, even to outer space, to express the ‘Designed for Flight’, such as AIR JODAN XXX was metaphor as universe, and Air Jodan XXXIII, Jordan Proto-React, Jordan Apex-Utility and Jordan Aerospace 720 casual shoes contains the idea of aerospace. The inspiration of new released Jordan Delta comes from the gloves of astronauts.
The astronauts’ gloves are made of kinds of materials to keep warm, protection and allow them to move easily. It becomes a big characteristic of Jordan Delta. The material contains tear resistant material, anti-fur, mesh fabric, padding foam and reflective coating etc., which concern the comfort level.
As if the design manuscript had jumped out of the page into shoes, the first released colorway of Jordan Delta is different with other colorways. The Jumpman on shoe tongue, number 000 23 on the outboard of vamp and the Wings logo on the shoe heel are showed as handwriting. It’s charming.
